Boon Song
History:
Boonsong was originally owned by a local family in Phang Nga province. Like many elephants of her generation, she spent most of her life working in the logging industry, hauling heavy timber through dense forests. She was strong, determined, and dedicated to her work.
However, tragedy struck one day when a massive log slipped and crushed her leg, leaving her with a severe fracture. Her owner rushed her to the elephant hospital, where she underwent extensive treatment and rehabilitation for nearly two years. During this time, Boonsong slowly regained her strength, but the injury had left her unable to endure the same grueling labor as before.
Recognizing that Boonsong had worked tirelessly her entire life, her owner made the compassionate decision to retire her from labor. Wanting to ensure she would be well cared for, they contacted Bua Thong Elephant Sanctuary, a place where she could live out her remaining years in comfort and peace.
Now at 50 years old, Boonsong enjoys a life of freedom, surrounded by nature and gentle caretakers. Though her past was filled with hardship, she now spends her days roaming freely, socializing with other elephants, and finally experiencing the kindness and rest she deserves. Her story is a testament to resilience and the power of second chances.
